Immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Tomahawk area by heading over to some of our best hiking trails! We have a variety of options for different levels of hikers.
Bradley Park, so named for the founder of the city William H. Bradley, has a great network of trails over 100 acres that range from leisurely to adventurous. Located just a few blocks from downtown Tomahawk and our historic Main Street, it’s surrounded by Lake Mohawksin and also features a boat landing, playground, and kid’s fishing lake. Hike out the peninsula path to a wooden bridge and a scenic point.
Also right in town, the Tomahawk River Walk is a short, comfortable paved and board walk from Veteran’s Memorial Park to SARA Park, tracing the shore of Lake Mohawksin and the Wisconsin River. It ends at the trailhead of the Hiawatha Trail, a converted railway bed that leads north to the Hiawatha Trail. Hike or bike all the way up to Minocqua on that crushed gravel path, passing woods and water on your way.
Looking for a view? Head to a higher peak at Timm’s Hill. Not only does Timm’s Hill County Park feature the highest geographical point in all of Wisconsin, it also has 10 miles of trails looping Timm’s and Bass Lakes. Everyone from hikers to horseback riders are welcome on this non-motorized system, located about 30 minutes from Tomahawk. Climb the observation tower for panoramic views of color in the Fall!
The Harrison Hills Segment of the Ice Age Trail is a beautiful section that can get you a few steps closer to completing the entire Ice Age Trail, spanning 1,200 miles and 30 counties across Wisconsin. It’s considered a “moderately challenging” segment, featuring the highest point of the entire trail system. Also in Lincoln County, the Grandfather Falls Segment offers 4 miles meandering alongside the Wisconsin River. Grandfather Falls also holds the title of the highest waterfall on the Wisconsin River. The Underdown Recreation Area and its Ice Age Trail Segment boasts a challenging mountain bike trail and more gorgeous views of this ancient glacial region for hikers. Rustic camping opportunties abound!
