Treehaven Dinner and a Speaker Series
Student Chapter of the Wildlife Society at UW-Stevens Point (Ruffed Grouse Project)
March 14, 2019 – Dinner 6 p.m., Speaker 7 p.m
Have you ever hunted ruffed grouse or wanted to learn more about this animal’s fascinating behavior? Then join us as students from the Ruffed Grouse Project at the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point Student Wildlife Chapter present their research on the ruffed grouse. The Ruffed Grouse Project currently uses Treehaven to study ruffed grouse for four weeks during the spring. Research being conducted at Treehaven includes trapping and radio collaring the birds, studying drumming log selection, estimating home range sizes of male ruffed grouse, and understanding how topography effects a ruffed grouse’s drumming log selection. These radio collared birds are then located through telemetry by students who are at Treehaven for their summer field experience
