The Tomahawk Area Historical Society is presenting"Tomahawk Has Wings". a special event recalling Tomahawk's aviation history. The public in invited to join Society members and volunteers on Thursday, September 29 at 1:30 at Grace Lutheran Church. Guest speaker Michael Goc, aviation historian and board member of the Wisconsin Aviation Hall of Fame, will share the story of John Kaminski who at the 18 was the nation's youngest licensed and Wisconsin's first licensed pilot. He made headlines with his July 4th 1914 crash in Tomahawk while taking off from North Tomahawk Avenue. Also remembered will be Reidar Olsen who built bi-planes in the old Tomahawk Shoe Factory building in the mid 20's. Allan Bell and Bob Koth will share some of their recollections of Reidar. Local pilot Dee Dreger will speak about becoming a pilot and the female pilot's Ninety-Nines organization.
